01 - Hard Water
The calcium and magnesium in hard water leave behind more than just spots on your fixtures. When water evaporates, these minerals crystallize, forming a rock hard layer that restricts water flow and dulls surfaces. CLR uses a process called chelation, where our formula wraps around these mineral ions, pulling them into a liquid state so they simply rinse away.

Calcium carbonate has a crystalline structure that bonds to surfaces like cement. Only a low-pH, non-toxic acid can break that bond without harming the metal underneath.
02 - Soap Scum
Soap scum is created when the fatty acids in your soap react with the minerals in your water. This creates a sticky, opake layer that traps bacteria and skin cells. The surfactants in CLR reduce the surface tension of the water, allowing our cleaning agents to get underneath the scum and lift it away from the tile or glass.

Soap Scum is technically an “insoluble salt”. CLR’s acid based chemistry converts these solid salts back into a liquid state, so they can be washed down the drain.
03 - Well Water
Unlike municipal water, Well Water is an untreated mix of raw earth minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, and manganese. When these minerals hit the air in your home, they oxidize, turning into stubborn orange stains, discoloration on fixtures, and the black stains commonly found in toilets. CLR acts as a neutralizing agent, dissolving these heavy mineral deposits on contact and restoring the original finish of your sinks, toilets, and appliances.

CLR utilizes a process called chelation. The formula's molecules act like microscopic claws that surround mineral ions, preventing them from re-attaching to your surfaces during the cleaning process. CLR's proprietary formula can also remove Manganese soils in addition to carbonate and iron deposits.
04 - Rust Stains
Rust (Iron Oxide) occurs when oxygen and moisture meet metal. Some cleaners just try to bleach the orange color, but CLR actually changes the chemical state of the rust. By reacting with the iron oxide, our formula converts the hard, orange stain into a colorless, water-soluble compound that can be wiped away with a sponge.

When iron in water meets oxygen, it creates iron oxide (rust). CLR performs a “reduction” reaction, which strips the oxygen away from the iron, effectively turning it’s orange stain back into a clear, colorless liquid.
