Fall is a great time for restoration projects

As the trees are transforming the outside world into a landscape of beautiful bright reds, yellows and orange hues, it’s a perfect time for a restoration project that will make your inside world beautiful. Why not restore some old lockers?

Restoring old lockers not only provides a great way to keep your home neat and organized. And they can also help give any room a unique personality. Use them to store clothes and toys in a child’s bedroom, office supplies, or shoes/coats and jackets in a front hall or mudroom. And with CLR® and some spray paint, you can save hundreds, or even thousands of dollars by restoring them yourself.

Things you will need:

• CLR® Calcium, Lime, Rust Remover
• Brush, cloth or sponge
• Rubber or latex gloves
• Warm water and a bucket
• Spray paint

Let’s get started:

1. In a well-ventilated area, mix equal amounts of CLR® and warm water. Never mix CLR with other household cleaners or bleach.
2. Scrub the surfaces with the CLR/Water solution with a brush, cloth, or sponge. After 2-3 minutes, rinse with cold water.
3. If you see that the surface is pitted and you’re looking for a smooth furniture-quality finish, you may want to use a sanding sponge and repeat step #2.
4. After the surface is dry, spray paint with your favorite color or colors. Choosing a paint that includes primer would ensure your lockers will be looking good for years.
5. Enjoy your newly restored locker!
